What is it?

Having Good Mental Health

Our mental health affects how we feel, behave and relate to others with mental illness affecting almost half of all Australians aged 16 to 85 years.

Our GP doctors specialise in providing mental health support for anyone who is looking to:

  • Think clearer

  • Learn relaxation techniques

  • Plan and deal with the challenges of life that cause emotional distress such as relationship breakdown, post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, abuse, eating disorders.

A Mental Health Care Plan can facilitate some funding support with a psychologist to empower you, set & follow a plan to achieve your goals, develop strategies to overcome tricky situations and daily challenges.

Booking an appointment

Mental Health Care Plan

Book with any of our GP doctors and let our staff know that you would like to discuss a Mental Health Care Plan so the right amount of time with the GP is allocated to you.

A Mental Health Care Plan allows you to claim up to 20 sessions with a mental health professional each calendar year. After six sessions, you will be required to go back to the doctor to review the Mental Health Care Plan and discuss whether it would be helpful to have further sessions.

For those with eating disorders, our GPs can write an Eating Disorder Plan which provides Medicare rebates for 40 psychologist sessions and 20 dietician sessions per calendar year.

For those with chronic conditions, our GPs can provide a GP Management Plan, however, the rebate from Medicare for mental health professionals is lower than a Mental Health Care Plan.

If you or someone you know is in crisis and needs help now, call triple zero (000). You can also call Lifeline on 13 11 14 — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Who does it?
